Bold Buffalo

Bold, strong, and steady, this buffalo was carved by Andres Quandelacy from green turquoise.  I has natural red coral horns and inlaid eyes.  The face, hooves, fur around the shoulders and head is well detailed.  It feels very good in the hand.

Buffalo, or American bison, roamed the plains in the millions from Northern Mexico into Canada before colonization.  Buffalo are sacred to many Native American people.  They provided so much the people needed: food, clothing, leather to line tipis and make parfleches which are beautifully painted rawhide containers, tools, and so much more.  There has been success in recent years to bring the buffalo back to the plains, especially to Native American tribes on the plains.
